This information about the 2011 National Mosaic Exhibition on Cape Cod
appeared in The Falmouth Enterprise, July 15, 2011, Page Seven-A

The National Mosaic Exhibition opens Wednesday, July 20, at Highfield Hall in Falmouth, MA, and
runs through September 4. Fifty-four mosaic artists from across the US will show their work in this juried show, the largest exhibition of mosaic art ever held on the East Coast.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Highfield Hall gallery hours are Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, Thursdays until 8pm in July and August, and Sundays from 10am to 1pm. There will be an opening reception with an opportunity to meet the artists on Friday, July 22, from 5 to 8pm. Complimentary beer, wine, soft drinks and light refreshments will be served. Nationally recognized mosaicist Sonia King will give a presentation at 7:15pm. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.

Of the 209 submissions, jurors Lynne Chinn and Lynn Moor have selected Michelle Eckhart for her mosaic, “Early Spring in the Peach Orchard” for the Best of Representational award. Set in a peach orchard with two bunnies in the foreground this piece captures the serenity of a springtime sunrise. The artist used Italian and Mexican smalti, millefiori, and glass infusions....

A People’s Choice award will be voted by all who view the exhibit during the opening week. It is sponsored by Mosaic Oasis Studio and Supply in Arlington. A Mini Salon Sale will feature small mosaics from some of the artists. Each mosaic will be 12 inches square or smaller and will sell for $150, a portion of which will benefit Highfield Hall....

Numerous workshops will take place throughout the six-week exhibition period, many of which are already sold out. Films and lectures will be offered on Thursday evenings and will feature Barcelona’s Antonio Gaudi, Isaiah Zagar of Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens, and the premiere of the documentary film created by Falmouth Community Television during the making of the Shining Sea Bikeway mosaic mural.

Highfield Hall is at 56 Highfield Drive, off Depot Avenue, in Falmouth.
